Meet Our Father & Son Duo!

The father, David Wan has been a member of our Parts Division for what will be a decade in February next year.

The son, Nathan initially came to Majors as a high school work experience student.

The six weeks work experience led to Nathan being offered a job with the company and on leaving school, he has joined as a junior parts interpreter.

The outcome of Nathan being offered employment while in work experience resulted in his school presenting him with a special congratulatory award.

With respect to David, when it comes to componentry of trucks, this is a man who really knows what’s what.

At present he is handling receivals.

That’s receiving the wide variety of parts which arrive as a semi-trailer load each week.

Among his tasks is finding a home for each item which of course requires knowing exactly where things go because they have to be found readily when there’s a need for them.

David has worked at both ends of the department – receivals and despatch so the goods are in good hands otherwise it’s a department that could easily be in chaos.

Before joining Major Motors almost 10 years ago, he worked in a Naval Base steel yard operating cranes and other machinery and before that he was in the mining industry based at Kambalda.

He says he’ll be with Majors till he retires as he’s found working in Parts interesting and he’s happy to be kept busy.

It has to be said that David is not one who likes to be idle.

Fishing used to be his favourite activity, but he is now into more active stuff….

His fitness belies his 60 years of age as he has acquired several quality bicycles that are put to good use. A ride of 80-90kms is not unusual for him.

So, while we may see David retiring in perhaps a few years, the Wan name, thanks to Nathan being with us, maybe around a while longer.
